Wilhelm Reich: Orgone Energy and Burning Books
Wilhelm Reich (1897–1957) is considered one of the most controversial yet fascinating pioneers in the research of universal life energies. Originally a brilliant student of Sigmund Freud, he turned to biophysical vibration research in the 1930s. He constructed special cabins made of alternating layers: organic material (such as wool or wood) was meant to attract and absorb energy from the environment, while inorganic metal reflected the energy inside. When a patient sat inside this cabin, their organism was intended to be energetically charged by the highly concentrated vibrational field, literally melting away deep-seated blockages.

The Escalation by the FDA
Although Wilhelm Reich and his patients reported astonishing therapeutic success and highly positive effects on the immune system, his research was radically rejected and attacked by the medical establishment.
Burning books and smashed laboratories: What happened to Wilhelm Reich in the 1950s is considered today to be one of the most sinister chapters in modern scientific history. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classified his orgone research as massive fraud and launched an unprecedented witch hunt. In 1956, government representatives raided Wilhelm Reich's laboratories in Orgonon. Under court supervision, his orgone accumulators were literally smashed into small pieces with axes. But the real shock was yet to come: tons of irreplaceable scientific research records, journals, and books by Wilhelm Reich were confiscated and completely burned in the incinerators of New York. It was one of the few state-ordered and executed book burnings in the history of the USA.
A tragic end behind bars: Reich, who was convinced that he had made a revolutionary discovery, steadfastly refused to allow scientific facts to be debated in court. He argued that a judge could not rule on the laws of nature. For contempt of court, he was ultimately sentenced to two years in prison. The tragedy culminated in November 1957: Wilhelm Reich died of heart failure in the Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary – just a few days before his scheduled release on parole. Large parts of his remaining, unburned files were sealed after his death and disappeared into the dark for decades.
The unsolved mystery of life energy: To this day, the absolute brutality with which the authorities attempted to obliterate Reich's work raises many questions. Why was a supposedly ineffective wooden box destroyed with such legal and physical aggression? The systematic destruction of his empirical evidence makes it extremely difficult for today's research to fully reconstruct his biophysical experiments.
Nevertheless: Despite the unprecedented destruction of his life's work, Reich's knowledge could not be completely erased. Deep in the underground, his findings paved the way for completely new approaches in vibrational medicine.
